David was sitting up in his room with a book in hand, having been awake for almost an hour now. He was an early riser and chose to spend his time waiting for his mother to come in with a good book. When he heard her singing, he just smiled to himself and giggled quietly. She was quite silly.
“Thank you, and I’m sorry again for rage here.”
William said with a forced smile, since smiling wasn’t something he wanted right now. Whenever she open her door, he stepped outside, and thanked her one more time before make his way back to his place.
100 – Jennifer & William
Reaching the door, William took a deep breathe, and rubbed his face, to calm down himself, his eyes weren’t red anymore, and he really needed to control his emotions to not cry in front of her. That’s what he hated about himself, he could cry when it was about love, when it was about her, and his strong emotions for her, she just had that power on him, and he hated crying.
William took his keys and stretched out his hand to place the key in the locker, he wasn’t even thinking twices about this, if he should really go to face her, well he would have to do it sooner or later, so. He finally open the door, and the first thing he heard was Penny’s bark, such energetic dog, but not even that made him smile, he stepped inside, trying his best to remain calm and have a normal expression, but it clearly showed that he wasn’t on himself.
He said, while closing the door behind him, he didn’t removed his jacket, and just walked into the living room to see Jennifer on the couch, the other cop Amelia mentioned him about it wasn’t here, which meant their conversation already ended, that was good, because William didn’t wanted to stay here and listen to whatever they spoke about, it would only make him feel like crap, and what would the cop think about a man who lets his woman touch another man.
“We need to talk..I just came back from Amelia’s house.”
He told her, as he licked his lips, and bite them. He hoped this words and expression would be enough to let her know they needed to talk about their relationship and Galtem. But yet, he decided to say.
“About us..and Galtem.”
This was so hard to say, because it felt like Galtem belonged to their relationship, it wasn’t his, it was William and Jennifer’s but his name was in the middle, and that bothered William.
As Roger left Jennifer’s apartment, he pulled his phone out of his pocket and called one of his investigators. After they talked briefly about any updates on the case, then added “Ms. Wiles has confirmed a time-line for Manzeli, but she can’t remember exactly when she went into the restroom with him. Pull up all the video footage from the party that night and have someone try to find them. I’m about to speak with Reed to see if she has anything else to elaborate on. Ms. Wiles should be down later today to write a statement…let me know if she doesn’t by tonight.” With that, he ended the call and stuck his phone back into his pocket.
Soon he was in front of Amelia’s door, and he exhaled yet again. The lieutenant was used to seeing her on a regular basis at work, but he had never visited her on a friendly visit outside a case. Though he had been to her apartment once or twice before, this time felt different. Roger hadn’t really come here to badger her more about the case. In fact, he hoped the case didn’t come up at all as he felt both Amelia and himself needed a break from the chaos it was ensuing in their little home of Derry. He placed his right hand into his pocket and lifted his left hand to knock on the door. Rapping sharply on her door twice, he placed his other hand into his pocket as well and waited to see how Amelia would react to seeing him.
“It was just a kiss. I promise it was nothing more. It didn’t mean-“ She cursed herself for choking on the words. It should have been simple. It didn’t mean anything. “Galtem doesn’t matter, Will. There’s no us and Galtem. There’s only us. I did an awful thing and I’m so sorry. Galtem means nothing. He’s nothing.” she promised. If she had thought she had cried all her tears out last night, she had been wrong, but she kept looking at William, blinking them away. This was the look she had wanted to avoid. She did not want to see him like this. She never wanted to see him like this.
Amelia glanced down at the kitty, who was now playing with a tassle on one of her cushions. So innocent to all this, and happily making its own fun. It gave Amelia a reason to smile, and she moved across the floor to pat it, when she heard the rapping on the door. Oh no. Who could it be now? Straightening up, she took a deep breath and moved for the door, opening it…and getting a happy surprise.
“Oh Rodger…” she said, her face crumpling as she felt the first happy tears. She was actually so happy to see him, her reaction was one of great emotion. She stepped over her landing and wrapped her arms around him, burying her face in his chest. “Just hold me.”
William waited for a replay from Jennifer, and whenever she stood up to get closer to him, he felt like he should just step away from her. For obvious reasons, not want to feel her touch, and not want to snap, or have a break down. But yet, she grabbed his hand, and he wanted so much to yank it away from her hold, he didn’t wanted to feel her touch, it would make him feel like shit, and would make him want stay with her, when he couldn’t do that. He needed to stop being such a fool, and think people change like that, they are never going to change. Amelia said Galtem was the only one who changed and not Jennifer, but for William, Jennifer changed as well, she changed back to that person whenever Galtem was around, he would be the first thing she looked at, then he was gone, and William was the first thing Jennifer looked at, with him back again, it will only ruin this all.
He heard her apologizing, and seeing her crying was heart breaking, everytime she cried, he would hug her, and hold her closer, support her and comfort her. That’s why he was always stuck to her, because he wanted to help her on fixing herself, but right now, he’s the one who needs to fix himself. Another thing that bothered him was that, last night they had such wonderful moment, and yet she didn’t told him anything from what had happen in the disco with Galtem. He just felt like since she couldn’t get her pleasure with Galtem, she used William. He felt used, and a lot. But what made his expression changed was when Galtem was nothing, the kiss meant nothing, Galtem meant nothing. He just gave her “are you kidding me?” look.
“No, a kiss matters, it does, and you know it. If Galtem didn’t meant a thing, then you would’ve never done that, you wouldn’t change yourself into somebody you wasn’t because Galtem was present.”
William said with a huff on the end of his words, as he looked away, he was feeling tears getting back again, but heh was fighting them.
“I can’t understand. How can you love somebody like him? Like Galtem?!”
He didn’t wanted to raise his voice, but he did.
“He is only that guy who will ruin you! Can’t you see that? He doesn’t care, Jennifer. He will use you, again, like he did back then when River was still alive. He doesn’t care about you, or love. He just wants women for his own pleasure!”
He knew he shouldn’t bring back past, because Jennifer hated that, but he couldn’t control himself. He had to say this, it was his opinion. He can’t see Galtem caring about anybody but himself, its impossible for him to love another person but himself. While William on the other hand, done his best for her, and its still not enough.
He couldn’t help it, he just kept coughing, and when he finally got himself to stop coughing, he was wheezing. Felix was dead. Gone. Forever. But he had found Delilah. His Delilah. Not technically his. But he would always be hers, and that was close enough for him.
William’s first words made her heart drop to her stomach. She shook her head. “That’s not what I meant, William. I know I screwed up, I know it matters, but… but I love you!” she told him. It was the one thing she was sure of in this entire fucked up situation. There wasn’t even a slight doubt that she loved William. There was no justification for what she had done. There was nothing she could say to make it better. She was forced to just listen to what he had to say and know that it was true. She wanted to go to him again. He looked away from her and she could see he was fighting tears. Hers didn’t seem to listen to her as she blinked them away. Her throat was tight and she felt like she would collapse right then and there. William was the solid rock in her life that kept her sane. And she had broken him. How could he fix her if he himself was broken?
He asked her the question she didn’t know the answer to and it stung to hear the words come out of his mouth. How could she like somebody like Galtem? But William didn’t know him as she did. Didn’t know his good side. It didn’t matter, though, because at the moment she couldn’t have cared less about Galtem. She needed William. “I don’t know,” she said and shook her head, but her words were lost when he raised his voice. Jennifer looked down, unable to look at him. It didn’t make a difference since her vision was now blurry anyway.
Each sentence hurt worse than the last. Maybe because she saw truth in what he was saying. She certainly felt ruined. Maybe even a little used. When River’s name was mentioned, she looked up at him. She was shocked enough to stop crying as she looked back at him with a hurt expression. But she couldn’t argue back. What had she been thinking? Did she really believe that Galtem loved her? Because he said so in the ladies restroom after disappearing for a hundred years? Was it worth losing William over?
“I’m so sorry…” There was nothing else she could say. It was not an argument. If it were, she would take his side. “If I could take it back… Will, I love you.” Whatever he decided to do, because the next move was entirely his decision, she wanted him to know that she loved him. She didn’t want him to doubt it for one second. Jennifer couldn’t imagine what he was feeling, but whatever it was, he could not think that she did not love him.
Roger looked up from staring at the floor while he was waiting to see tears on Amelia’s face. Frowning with concern, he was about to ask her what was wrong when he felt her throw her arms around him and buried her face into his chest. Sighing heavily with relief at feeling her touch, his arms went around her protectively as he rested his cheek on the top of her head. Closing his eyes, the lieutenant breathed in the smell of her shampoo and smiled gently. She smelled amazing.
After standing there like that for a few moments with him rubbing his hands down her back, he murmured gently “Take it easy, Vampira…” Reaching down with his large hands, he grabbed just under the curve of her arse to lift her up into his arms. Still keeping them wrapped tight around her, he carried her into her apartment and kicked the door shut with his foot. Walking into her living room, he sat down on the couch and adjusted Amelia so she was laying across his lap. Forcing her head to lay down on his shoulder, he nuzzled into her hair and sighed again. He needed this, and it was clear her day was just as shitty as his.
While they relaxed in their embrace for a few moments, Roger decided he ought to say something useful “So it’s safe to assume your day has been a load of crap too, huh? I just got back from questioning Jennifer. Not exactly a cup of tea.” Looking down at Amelia, he reached up with a hand to brush her hair away from her eyes “But I don’t want to talk about work. What has my gothic queen so distressed she has to cry. I do not like to see you sad, Vampira.” Smiling down at the woman he not so secretly loved, he waited for her to unload her shitty day on him so he could take all the pain and stress out of her life.
After her quick shower, Delilah padded to her room in a towel to get dressed. After tossing on jeans with a green t-shirt that brought out her own green hues, she smiled and went about the task of blow-drying her hair and putting make-up on. When she felt she looked presentable enough, she went into her son’s room and smiled brightly “Are you going to be ready to go soon? How about we make a big breakfast for Benedict before we go? I doubt he’s had anything good to eat in a long time.”
David looked up from his book to smile happily at his mother “Yea, that sounds fun. I’m already dressed so I can come help you now.” Setting his book on his night stand, he hopped out of bed and looked at his mother. Though he was supposed to be ten years old, it looked as if he were aging more rapidly. Delilah knew it was the effects from her own magic in the apartment, but she made sure he would stop aging so quickly when he looked like a teenager. It wouldn’t do to have her neighbors notice, and she figured she could blame it all on puberty.
Seeing David was eager to help with breakfast, Delilah smiled and held out her hand to him “Let’s go, then.”
He took her hand and walked out of his room down the hallway with her. While Delilah went into the kitchen and began pulling out pans and the necessary food items to make bacon and eggs, David went to sit on the couch beside Benedict. Still wearing his friendly smile, he asked “Are you coming with us to the airplane shop today?”
Hearing Jennifer speaking, only made him get angry, because she said she didn’t knew why she loved Galtem, she didn’t denied she didn’t loved/like him, and he couldn’t understand what did she liked about him, he was an extremely arrogant asshole, who didn’t cared about anybody but himself, and still, she liked that thing? Well William isn’t aware of Galtem’s good/soft side so. William tried his best to not look at her, while he was thinking on what he should do about this, he was thinking twice about break, and it still seemed the best idea out there in this kind of situation.
“Sorry won’t change anything, Jennifer, and you can’t take it back.”
He told her with an annoyed huff, as he looked at her for few seconds before look down again. He heard her saying she loved him, and he heard that on those seconds he was staring at her face, she wans’t lying, but he couldn’t trust her like that, he didn’t wanted to be a fool and let himself fall in again, and get hurt in the end, he’s tired of this awful pain, he needs a break, and time for fix himself. He was never fully broken till now, his heart was slowly cracking, with this it just exploded, he couldn’t find her or their relationship, when himself was broken.
“I believe we need a break. A break from each other, so you can know your true feelings, who you really love. Then I will have some time for myself to think about this all.”
William told her, as he took a deep breathe, and tried his best to not sound so sad and broken, but it wasn’t that easy.
“It will be the best for both of us, ok?”
He told her with a forced smile, and finally looked at her. His tone changed from a loud angry one, to a calm one, he was never able to yell at her for long, or keep his voice like that, he always takes things calmly with her, but even him has limits.
